Improve Education

If elected as your representative in LD1, I will ensure there is appropriate and adequate funding for schools for much needed teaching supplies, infrastructure and money for salaries (to name just a few areas.) We face many issues that need to be addressed in a timely manner to ensure our schools our strong and we meet the needs of everyone.

Making sure kids have materials is very important to the success of our students. Camden, Cherry Hill, Washington Township, Atlantic City, Pleasantville – there are huge disparities of resources that can be improved on with focus and commitment. Some areas have state-of-the-art buildings and some have asbestos and ceilings falling down. This is not acceptable. It’s one reason I am stepping up to lead – to really help my community in all areas of our education system.

Where is the accountability for funds that come into the system?

With 27 million set aside for schools – where is it going. How are buildings falling apart? I will find out and be transparent in my research and my abilities to make needed changes. We need to really see where the money is going.

One school does not have air conditioning – Bridgeton – and they had to close the school – no air conditioning and could not open windows due to fire and smoke. Protecting our young people from dangerous air quality should be a priority. If admins are in air conditioning – kids should have the same environment!

Let’s look at salaries – lower levels – these salaries are terrible for our hardest working teachers.  The top admin people are getting huge salaries. Enough of this! We should be ashamed to allow our teachers to live with unsupportive salaries for their families.

More on Education in the coming months, for now – this is where my heart is – in making our education system work for all – students, teachers, support staff and infrastructure.
